2009/2010 Season Announced

) Brüka Theatre announces the 2009/2010 season. Brüka enters the 17th season with plays written by Pulitzer Prize winning authors and northern Nevada premiere productions including original works from the Brüka ensemble and local playwrights. Our opening night audience will enjoy a champagne reception with the cast and crew following the opening Friday night performance. In an effort to create conversation and participation with our community, we will also feature talks with the company following most Sunday matinees.

The season opens with the mind bending and humorous play The Architect and The Emperor Of Assyria, written by Ferdinand Arrabal, directed by Tom Plunkett (October 2 – 30). Just in time for the holidays comes a charmingly blasphemous Yuletide tale The Weber Family Christmas by Fratelli Bologna, directed by Rodney Hurst, winner of the San Francisco Dramalogue award. In the spring, Pulitzer prize winning play Angels In America, Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner, directed by Dave Anderson (February 19 – March 20, 2010); The Book of Liz written by The Talent Family of David and Amy Sedaris, directed by Jim Martin (April 9 - May 1, 2010) and the broad and ridiculous Great American Trailer Park The Musical written by David Nehls and Betsy Kelso, directed by Mary Bennett (May 14 – June 19, 2010). Androo Allen directs the Dog Sees God by Bert V. Royal, as part of the Artown festival (July 2 – July 31, 2010)

Offered in our sub-Brüka space Bug by Pulitzer prize winning author Tracey Letts, directed by David Richards (January 15 – January 30, 2010); An original work, created by The Brüka Ensemble Love Squared lead by Stacey Spain and Holly Natwora (February 11 - 14, 2010); Also Four Original Play Readings written and performed by various authors and actors (throughout the season); Brüka’s Theatre for Children is back with another installation in the Grimm’s Project, Grimm’s Adaptations II, with public performances (April, 2010) touring schools and communities (April – July, 2010): and we will celebrate Halloween at our 12th annual Freakers Ball, costume party extravaganza (October 31, 2009 – 9 pm).

Season subscriptions are now available for the eight shows and variety of events offered by Brüka. Subscribing has been long considered the single most cost-efficient way to see theater and support the company as they embark on the many costs of producing a new season. You can also become a friend of Brüka to show your support. Information is available on the website at www.bruka.org

The audience "votes" by donating to their favorite act, and at the end of the show whoever has raised the most money gets to choose the charity to donate to, AND becomes the featured act/host of the next Art Bar Cabaret.
Auditions for "Fluffer" (voice talent only)

Hi there, Bruk's. Last year my Zsu Zsu art installation taught me a lot about the importance of the right voice talent in an interactive Burning Man art installation. For this year's project, we will be pre-recording male and female voices for a hypnotic trance experience. Please check out the project website at www.MutantVehicle.com/Fluffer.htm and drop me a private message if you have an interest in the auditions taking place this March. For the last three years my collaborative art installations were awarded grants and free tickets by Burning Man, so if we're lucky enough this year, there is a possibility for free admission to the event for cast and crew.

Be well and do strange things,

Hello all-

Just a quick remeinder that Becket's final performances are this weekend. Fri @ 7:30 and Sat @ 7:30, mantinee @ 2pm on Sunday. Hope you can make it. I am very proud of this production and Jorge is brilliant. Camille also turns in an exceptional performance eventhough her time on stage is limited. Hope to see you there. If not, have a wonder holiday season and a happy new year!

Auditions for God Of Hell - December 2, 2008

DECEMBER 2, 2008 @ 7 PM

I will be auditioning people who couldn't make the
group auditions in the fall. The cast is 1 woman and 3 men, ages in 30's-40's.
An ability to pull off a Wisconsin accent is a plus. If you fit those parameters,
then do come on Dec 2nd, 7pm at
the theatre, and you'll get a chance to read.
That aside, my best advice is.. walk thru the door.
Come see the show thats
playing. Volunteer to help out. Get to know us, and
let us get to know you.
Producing theatre is much more than just the
actor's participation, and the
more we understand all aspects of what it takes to put
up a show the better we get at it.
Thank you for your interest.

Said Tom Plunkett of Bruka Theatre

Explanation: Tom wrote a great letter to some interested parties and I took some pieces of it to let anyone know who might read tribe anymore about the audition. Looking forward to this one Tom!

Has inspired me to look elsewhere for a decent forum-like site for the Bruka Family. Failing to find one, I decided to make one for our own use. It probably won't have the traffic that Tribe has, but it is more feature rich and it's not DOWN half the time you want to use it.

www.thebruka.ning.com

Visit it. take a look. Join if you'd like. Please bounce around it and see if anything sticks. I've got total control of the look and feel, so let me know if anything can be improved on. I'm open to suggestions. There are groups available to join if you want to be a part of more focused discussions, the ability to blog, post pictures and videos, and all sorts of goodies.

The administrators are myself, Scott and Mary, so it is no longer solely in my hands to control the content. I'll just be around to try and make it look pretty.

I'm just done with this whole Tribe headache.

HELP!!! APB to all friends of Holly!!! My beautiful 1978 PUCH moped was stolen last night from behind Java Jungle. It is cherry red with grey fenders and black seat. no kickstand, modified exhaust, mirror on the right side and damaged rear brake cable. I attatched a grey milk crate to the rear book rack that they will probably remove. PLEASE keep your eyes open. This is the ONLY red Puch Maxi in town so if you see one, it is MINE. Call police at 334-2677 and report case number 08-30390 and then call me at 378-6231.

I've just finished editing act 1 of Cloud 9, and I'm wondering how many people are going to want a copy when it's finished. The footage is choking my poor computer and I need to burn Act 1 and wipe it off my hard drive befopre I can start Act 2. So I figured I'd just burn a bunch of copies all at once for whomever wants them.
Unfortunately, Androo's camera work is total crap, and it's difficult to make it even watchable...oh SHIT!!! I forgot, Androo is on Tribe now, so I'm going to have to stop slagging him off every chance I get.
BRILLIANT WORK, ROO!!! THANNNNNNNNNNNNKS!!!!! ;)

The kids in our design dept were tasked with illustrating a "fresh fish taco"
But they only had "clip art" of fishes and needed something like a goldfish.

So you might recognize that fish in the fish taco on p27
of the weekly paper in reno this week as being
the fishies from Nicky's.

Those fish aren't in the Finned Actor's Guild are they?
I can't afford "Scale wages" but if their agent needs
some good head shots, Here are the originals:

kids say the darndest

They had some little kid
ballroom dancers at a
competition in Baltimore.

I was stuck overhearing
inside edition today. hostage!
that stuff's such crap.

but it's like the proverbial
stripper with a boil on her neck
you can't look away...

But then, watching, I saw it
the kids were graceful and emotive dancers!
I had to see the rest.

After the dancing clip
The interviewer asked
that "what's your motivation"
question of the kids.

The girl answered 99% verbatim this:

We pretend the audience is deaf
and we have to make the music
come alive with our dancing.

aw. <snif>
It was kind of Jon Benet creepy
but at the same time
it's a freakin brilliant sentiment.

Hi Bruka Family-
I've been slaving over handmade wedding invitations, day in, day out and I just don't have the strength to assemble anymore so here's the invitation to our nuptials to be held at the glorious Great Basin Adventure Park within Rancho San Rafael Park. No really, the slaving part is not accurate, there's just too many of you people and paint is expensive. Check out the website below and please RSVP if you can make it. It's just gonna be one big fat party-Hope to see you there. Bill is keeping the log ride open, so please dress accordingly.
Going quite well so far a week in. Androo is super organized, and runs a tight ship. Men in dresses, girls are boys, everyone's kissing someone, or not.
Funny, creepy and disturbing all at once. More later.

In this month's Via Magazine (travel tips and stuff about the western U.S.) there's an article about Reno. It's quite interesting, talking about Reno's history, etc.

One of the paragraphs says...

"Reno has evolved. Condominiums have sprouted along the spruced-up riverfront, and the city has acquired touches of urban chic. An underground arts scene has found expression in hipster galleries such as La Bussola, which sells clocks and jewelry fashioned from recycled metal. Java Jungle Vino and other cafes have open-mike nights, while the cozy, respected Bruka Theatre turns an even brighter spotlight on community thespians and playwrights.

Yay! :O)

Hey all!

Wanted to make an announcement....... Norris is pregnant!! Ok, actually it's me. But it was his fault. ;)

We're 19 weeks along, and just heard the baby's heartbeat a couple days ago. So now we know it's real. Or, I swallowed a metronome.

Answers to your next questions:
Due in November! Hope for a Scorpio, so we can balance out the Virgos in the family. ;) We're guessing it's a boy, but we don't know--and we're not going to find out.

And, we might go to Burning Man for a day. ;)

Love and hugs! We'll get this baby into hear a play soon! I promise!

Why Do You Love Reno?

Hi Guys...I know this is a little off topic here at Bruka tribe. A friend of ours (and his wife) is considering moving here -- he came to see a show at Bruka and LOVED the theater, so maybe that's enough of a tie-in for me to post this here. ;O)

They're coming back to town in 3 weeks and want us to, basically, convince them that they're making the right decision. We'll, of course, be letting them know why we love Reno so much. But it would be nice to have some other opinions too.

So....

Why do YOU love Reno? And what would you recommend we show them while they're here?

One of the many reasons I love Reno is we get all 4 seasons, and none of them are too extreme. :O)

Thanks for your input.

Yes, I know I never keep in touch, I mostly just lurk around and randomly stalk you guys.

My first show ever was "Oliver Twist", and I was 11 and had 2 lines.

I've started a tribe for Reno Little Theater. I would love for you Bruka-ites, Brukettes, Bruka-philes, what-have-you, to join. I would love to have a dynamic dialogue go on for all our local theaters!

Michael, thank you for your assistance. I've decided to go the moderated route but we shall see...

I saw it tonight and it was very good. I have very little religious knowledge and I could still understand it... and those with more knowledge will have a good laugh and cry too.

Here's the scoop: only one more performance, Saturday, May 10, @7:30 pm

Nell J. Redfield Performing Arts Center, 505 Keystone Ave. Reno (at 5th & Keystone) Remember to leave extra time if traveling from the south end of town due to the river festival.
Tickets: student/senior $10, general $12
Reservations not necessary, but if you like you can call 775-789-5671 or email jfrederick@tmcc.edu

I am a big fan of Tracy Letts, author of Bug and apparently a wonderful show that just won the Pulitzer. I posted this article for our tribe, not only because I am a big beliver in the great power of the theatre on so many levels, but also because of the father/son relationship mentioned within. Maybe you will enjoy the story too.

casting a short film in reno

CASTING CALL FOR A SHORT FILM

YOU: We're looking for 1 male, somewhat clean-cut and innocent, screen age 18-25, and 1 female, tattooed and tough, early to mid 20s.

US: We're MFA film students at Columbia University in New York shooting a 12 minute short in Reno this May. Professional, fun, talented, crazy, you name it. It'll be a good time.

THE PROJECT: A lovable naive young man, (Eric) has fallen in love with (Mel) a tough minded lesbian drug dealer that happens to be taking a break from men. Their blissful world is torn apart when drug agents raid their house. The DEA agents try to get Eric to break and turn Mel in. Despite the chaos, Eric is focused on one thing: telling Mel that he loves her. (drama-dark comedy) It's very dialogue-driven and sharply funny and twisted.

WHEN: Filming will be on MAY 24, 25, and 26 (Saturday, Sunday, Monday), which is Labor Day weekend. We'll be rehearsing in the weeks preceding that, and will work the rehearsals around your schedule.

ETC: As this is a very low budget student production, there's no pay for these roles. But of course we'll give you food and screen credit and copies of the film, and also great exposure from festivals, screenings, etc. It'll be a really fun set and these are two great leading roles for an actor and actress looking for a quality addition to his/her reel.

CONTACT: Shawn Wines, producer, at shawnwines@gmail.com. Please include headshot, resume, time/location constraints, link to an online reel if possible, or whatever else you've got that you think would help. Questions or comments welcome as well. We'll follow up with you as soon as possible.

Best,
Shawn

I'd just like to thank the team at Bruka for making the Ten readings so very cool. It was great hearing all the great submissions in an organized professional rehearsed setting. I probably enjoyed my own piece a lot more than I thought I would because of fine work of the actors and the direction. I really like the ten minute format. It's like a dinner of appetizers. If you don't like what your hearing, your only ten minutes away from your next dish.

Bravo!

Thanks for making me a part of it. I hope this is just the first of many TEN nights.

Well it’s official, Cody and I have sold our house and are moving out. Hopefully it won’t be too long till we finish buying the new house.

I know it’s late notice but, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Cody and I are trying to empty out the house this weekend. I promise it will be an easy move. We have a single story house and have rented a container for all of our furniture that is in our driveway.

We will have pizza and drinks ready for lunch and beer at 5:00.

PM me for our number and directions

THANKS

Auditions for "Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer"

Soon! Less than a month away...

Reno Little Theater announces auditions for a brilliant new play written by Carson Kreitzer: "The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer", directed by Doug A. Mishler.

Who? We need five men and three women ranging in age from 20s to 60s.

When? February 10th and 11th (or by appointment) at 7pm. (You are welcome and encouraged to come to both nights but it is not mandatory)

When does the play run? It opens April 12th @7:30pm and runs Fridays & Saturdays @7:30pm and Sundays @2pm through April 27th.

Where? RLT's rehearsal hall, 246 E. Arroyo between Holcomb & Wells. Park on the street or in the little lot next to the brick house. Enter through the side gate (off of the parking lot). The rehearsal hall is behind the little brick house. Map: tinyurl.com/ys3aws

What? A new, award-winning play that is cerebral, human, historical, theatrical, and highly entertaining. It tells the story of the birth of the atomic age and the cold war through the life of the bomb's "father", J. Robert Oppenheimer, and his struggles with the consequences of what he has created. Original and thought-provoking.

Come ready for cold readings and more, and dressed for movement. For info and scripts call 775.826.1685. You can also check out our website at www.renolittletheater.org or call 775.329.0661

Hope to see you there!

Hey, did anyone else see the article in RNR about Club Plus Life? It's Reno's first "size-acceptance" nightclub (we're quite behind the times in this arena), a place for people of all sizes to party with abandon! A group of us are planning a night out there to have fun and check it out on Friday, Feb 8th. Doors open at 9:00pm, $5.00 cover, at Neutron, 340 Kietzke Lane.

Bring your butts, bellies, and boobies (man or otherwise) and let's Boogie!

New Venue for Shiva Vista Fundraiser!

Greetings Shiva Vista project Friends and Family!
We have been in a holding pattern that last week or so as the rumors are true! The Green Room has been shut down a month early by the city of Reno so we needed to find a new venue. All planes have been in holding pattern as a bit of uncertainly has surrounded the event. In the last few hours the final details are in place and everything has been worked out, just in time! Good thing this didn’t happen right before 2/2 or we may not have been able to pull it off. As it stands we still have two weeks to get the word out and get this place packed! We are asking for HELP. Please please please repost the new flyer and update press release when I get them out ether tonight or tomorrow morning. We have time, but its cutting pretty close…
AS of now, the new venue for the event is going to be at The Underground.
Remi and Slone have graciously booted the other event that was going to be in the space that night in favor of us! Thank you Remi and Slone. Much appreciated!!!
Please everyone get flyers at the melting pot as well as print then off your computer, new tickets will be printed and distributed. Gorilla marketing tactics will be needed at this stage. All help is tremendously appreciated!
Love Life and Fire,
Ryano

There's just too many Misters running around here. Mr. Mike, Mr. Michael, Mr. Bruka. It's making my head swim. And to make it worse, 2 of you don't even have your real photo showing so we can't tell who's speaking unless we visit your profile. Bah!

What if EVERYONE put Mr. and Mrs. in front of their name?

For the love of God, change them back! Change them back!

With love and a huge impending warning of "Mrs. Sassy" (which would really suck due to the snake-like sound)

Help! Where did my book go??

Bruka friends,

Due to a miscommunication, a book of mine was left at Bruka for a couple of weeks in Oct/Nov. Now it's missing! Help!

It's called "Dramatists Sourcebook." It's a medium-to-large-sized paperback, and it's red with a picture of a key on the cover. It was last seen in the upstairs office, but who knows where it wandered to from there. I had already started organizing and marking the entries, so I'd really like to get my copy back, if at all possible.

If anyone borrowed it, saw someone browsing it, remember seeing it sitting somewhere, or whatever, please email me!

Hey kids, I'm putting together a review of Monty Python skits slated for Jan 11-12/18-19 and I new 3 males ranging from 25-55. With the minor exception of two skits, these will all be two -offs, so rehearsal can be done at the actors pace. There will be minor blocking and stage direction, so people in Buttcracker could still manage to do both (if that's an issue).

If I get more than 3 responses, I'll set up a quick audition, but I suspect getting three will be an accomplishment.

Please let me know here on Tribe as I get check e-mail daily.

Thanks!

Casting Call for Burning Man 2008 Art Installation

Good morning, thespians. Myself and a small crew here in Reno are launching a project for Burning Man 2008 that requires the voice-over and acting talents of a young, thin female who's skill set includes a convincing French accent. Before you think I'm just some perv looking for a date, please check the history of my art projects that received grant funding from the Burning Man organization:

www.MutantVehicle.com/u-me.htm
www.MantisPuppet.com

The installation, to be known as "Zsu Zsu", will be a heart-shaped pink travel trailer with a French crybaby drama queen robot inside. Your acting contributions will be recorded and played back through the robotic mannequin and silhouette projections, all keyed to interactive input from participants. It's comedy, and all in good fun, so I'm sure we'll have a cackling good time as the project comes to life under our patient hands.

If we are again awarded the grant funds for this project, they will likely go in to the construction and electronics, so please understand that there will be no cash compensation for this project in which we are all donating our time and talents. For our 2007 U-Me project, we received free Burning Man tickets for some of the crew, so that is certainly a possibility for you. It's a good opportunity for you to work with some of the top local artists including Chris Munz, winner of the "best of show" award at the 2007 International Robotics Competition. Imagine doing some hard work now and then watching people react to your talent throughout the Burning Man event where you won't have to perform since it's all pre-recorded.

Please send me a PM or e-mail me at sinktrap@charter.net to arrange a telephone audition.

Thanks,

Jellyfish.

RLT needs Actors to be Raving Fans!

RLT has been asked to provide "atmosphere" actors for the IGT Hollywood Holiday party on Saturday, Dec. 8. The commitment is from 4:15pm until 7pm on that Saturday, plus one meeting to go over finer details of what they want from us. This is easy stuff and a lot of fun, too. I've done things like this and they're quick, easy and fun, so I urge you to join us. Here's the details.

IGT wants all of their employees and party guests to feel like stars for the evening. Now stars, as we all know, need FANS and that's where we come in. RLT needs to provide about 20 fans of all ages to wait at the red carpet and be "star-struck" as the party guests appear. We'll ask for autographs and snap pictures and generally make a fuss. They also want us to provide a Marilyn Monroe and an Elvis look-alike for photos so let me know if you're interested and just happen to have an Elvis outfit!

In exchange for this IGT is prepared to make a generous donation to RLT. So, although this is still volunteer acting, it's acting for a good cause. Please email me directly if you're interested (julie@jewelcelebrations.com) or call my office 636-3041, because I need to finalize a list really soon!

Thanks one and all!

Paging Holly N.
Paging Holly N.,

Please pick up the white courtesy phone.

Hey lady, I confirmed with the paper
ALL 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners
get to come to the Best of Reno party
at 210N tonight from 7pm to 9pm.

I don't know why she didn't get an invite
(except maybe we have a tiny core staff
and we have one week to find and notify
all 200 winners after they are announced.)
So, please forgive the short notice.

Crap, is Holly even on Tribe?

Someone tell her that if she wants to come
to the event, she can -either- RSVP today to
324-4440 x0 OR crash the party and tell
Mel and Linda at the door that she is Holly N.,
WINNER! and she will be let in. She gets
to bring (officially, one guest, but see below)
and will recieve 4 drink tickets.

I would imagine she is prolly going to
Freakers Ball after, but this is something
she can do first, to warm up her party cockles.

If she has any questions or wants to bring
more than 1 guest, tell her to just tell that
to Mel when she calls to RSVP.

Thank you for last night Bruka People.
Love this article about what Mr. Pinter is up to. Interesting fact inside: (Mr. Pinter began his career as an actor and has never stopped; he performed Beckett’s one-man play “Krapp’s Last Tape” at the Royal Court Theater last year.) Hey Scotti - pretty cool.

If anyone should decide to participate and in the RN&R's "Best of Northern Nevada" survey, and if you do NOT already have an entry in mind for categories such as Best Casino Bar, Show, Live Music, place for a first date, place to people watch, place to meet singles . . . etc etc - I would be most appreciative if you would enter "Rum Bullions" in the Silver Legacy in the category you might feel is appropriate!

Here's the linkage: http://www.newsreview.com/reno/Home

Any other suggestions for other categories? Add them to this thread so we can all support each other. (I'm curious to learn where the best spot is to run around naked.) Once you log in and fill in the entries, you can go back and update your choices until the survey is over around October 5.

The Zoo Story

Hi gang and welcome back if you were gone. Dave Anderson and I will be in the folowing production, directed by Sandy Brunell.

The Studio on 4th presents its inaugural theatrical production with Edward Albee’s “The Zoo Story” performing Sept 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22 at 8pm, with a matinee Sun Sept 16 at 2pm. The Studio on 4th is located at 432 E. 4th Street, Reno on the corner of 4th and Valley Rd. Tickets are $10

Albee's Obie Award winning American masterpiece The Zoo Story deals with issues of isolation, loneliness, class conflict, and the dangers of passivity on the American psyche. The play is the tale of two men from very different backgrounds who meet one Sunday afternoon in New York City's Central Park. Jerry, a disheveled and lonely man from the wrong side of the park, confronts Peter, a middle-aged and middle-class gentleman on a park bench. The result of this meeting is Albee's candid and sometimes grotesque exploration of absurdity, isolation and identity that has shocked and moved audiences for nearly 50 years. Albee's other works include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Seascape and The American Dream.

The production will be followed by live music from various local artists. ( Including on various nights, Lacey Matteson, NickRamierez, myself and others)

Hi there, Brukaites! If you are in-between shows and need something to fill the time we Reno Little Theater people would love to have your help!

"Fashion" opens in just three weeks. We are in need of a person to run lights & sound (we will train the right person, shouldn't be a complicated show). We also need some back-stage assistance. The cast will do the bulk of the set moving but we can utilize a few more people and we'd be very happy to see you!

The show opens at Hug High on Sept. 22 @7:30. We close Oct. 7th. We run Fridays & Saturdays @7:30 and Sundays @2 meaning call would be an hour before. Tech week starts the 16th and rehearsals will be 6-10 Sunday-Wednesday with a possible Friday rehearsal.

Message me if you're interested and if you have any questions. Thank you!
